The Wonders of RNA Synthesis

Known as RNA, ribonucleic acid is one of the essential molecules to human life. It plays a huge role in the expression of genes, as well as regulating, coding and decoding them. Along with DNA, it makes up the category nucleic acids. DNA, RNA and protein are the three macromolecules that are absolutely necessary for human life.

As I’m sure you can gather, RNA is pretty important. This is why scientists have spent so much time trying to synthesize it.

In order to aid RNA synthesis, something called a molecular beacon probe is used. This hairpin looking molecule binds to nucleic acid sequences. By doing this, it lets researchers know that said sequence is present. Once it’s isolated, scientists can begin sequencing it and then synthesizing a copy.

The fact that this is even possible is mind-blowing. Remember that RNA is essential for human life. Being able to synthesize it brings us a big step closer to modern miracles that could include repairing the human body of all kinds of damage. Of course, it could also mean building human life from scratch.

While science still has a long way to go, it’s important to recognize how far it’s come. Thanks to RNA synthesis  a better tomorrow is almost within reach.
